Quick answer
What is Dandruff Treatment?
Dandruff is a common scalp condition where small flakes of dry skin shed from the scalp, often with itching. It is not caused by poor hygiene. Treatment uses medicated shampoos and in-clinic scalp therapies; persistent flaking may be seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis or a fungal infection and needs a specialist's diagnosis.
Many people believe dandruff is caused by poor hygiene, but this is not true. Infrequent shampooing can make it more obvious, but the causes are more complex.
If flaking continues after using a dandruff shampoo, our hair specialist can diagnose whether it is seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, fungal infection or eczema and recommend the right plan.
